Fallen Heroes; See Photos From Lt. Colonel's Burial

Ali, a lieutenant colonel was buried alongside six others – Sergeant Muazu Ibrahim, Sergeant Hussani Jafaru, Sergeant Bassey Okon, Corporal Chukwu simon, Abel Sea Man Patrick Paul (of the Nigerian Navy) and Private Soldier Salisu Lawal. These seven military personnel were killed on Friday November 4, in an ambush by the Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state – North East of Nigeria.

Their funeral was graced with dignitaries including the chief of army staff – the chief mourner – many royal father, the minister of information, Lai Mohammed, wife of Senate President Toyin Saraki, Senator Dino Melaye, among many others. 

The funeral was also with emotions, pain as visibly observed. While the Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai could not hold back tears during his speech, he however, did not fail to assure the officers and men of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian military and Nigerians as a whole that the sacrifices made by the soldiers will not be in vain.

Mohammed Abu Ali He said: “They were brave, precise, professional and inspiring. They led the battle to recapture the following towns: Monguno, Baga, new Marte, Bama, Gwoza, Banki Junction, Gamboru-Ngala, Yale, Yanteke, Bita, Deruwa, Daira Kangaruwa and Mallam Fatori,” Buratai said. “In these battles, they rescued children and women, fathers and mothers, the young and the old and restored peace and hope to Nigerian citizens,” he said. “At last, on Nov. 4, they paid the supreme sacrifice in the battle of Mallam Fatori.

They exemplified the values of our nation and the military which are: loyalty, discipline, courage, selfless service, respect, honour and dignity. “Your labour will never be in vain,” the army chief, who sobbed through his oration said.
